Aerobatic Training at
Chandler Air
Service

Chandler Air Service, Inc. has been providing aerobatic flight training since 1981. We teach aggressively and we teach you how to perform and understand the maneuvers. We are not here to just "show" you how to do them and let you repeat what we have done. We teach you how to fly the airplane before we instruct in aerobatics. We give ground training when necessary and we give the ground that is needed. We provide good "nuts and bolts" training that avoids old school ideas, memorizing, and "deep thought aerodynamics".
Our pilots are full time employed Certified Flight Instructors at our school. No part time or beginners are allowed to provide this training. No professional pilots working somewhere else work here on the side. No commercial pilots giving training who can’t sign log books or give dual. These instructors instruct in all areas of flight training and know how to teach and handle each pilot’s individual needs. We interview every pilot to learn about their background, experience and goals. We adjust every program as necessary to meet a persons needs.
We have tailored programs for various branch’s of government and groups of pilots to meet their employers and personal needs to improve their skills.
UNUSUAL ATTITUDE AND EMERGENCY RECOVERY TRAINING
- We have basic unusual attitude recovery programs that are modified to 3, 5 and 10 hour programs. An example is a four-hour program in the Great Lakes followed by a unusual attitude and maneuver program in the Super Cub. We have one program that ends using a Cessna 172 for stall/spin entries. Don’t ask to use the Pitts unless your in to that. You are here to learn not go for a ride. The Pitts is excellent if you are already acro qualified. As a basic trainer it is not very good. Unlimited level acro aircraft are not as well suited to do this type of training particularly when you spend most of your time just holding on and over correcting. Call with questions and needs.
AEROBATIC EQUIPMENT
BEGINNING BASIC AEROBATIC COURSE -- GREAT LAKES:
10 hours
- No previous acro or
tailwheel experience necessary
BEGINNING BASIC AEROBATIC COURSE -- GREAT LAKES:
to solo: 15 hours
- Minimum 175 hours
flight time and private license
- Can include tailwheel
endorsement if needed, but takes more time.
Both above courses include all types of rolls, loops, loop/roll combinations, hammerheads, all spins, combinations of all and inverted flight, including climbs, descents, turns, and inverted stalls. Also these courses include the complete emergency spin recovery program, through inverted flat spins.
BEGINNING SHORT COURSE BASIC AEROBATICS -- GREAT
LAKES: 5 hours
- One-half of ten-hour
course, with less emphasis on additional maneuvers, little inverted
flight, and no take off and landing work.
BASIC SPIN TRAINING
- The complete emergency spin recovery program. The training received in this program will take you through advanced upright and inverted stall control procedures, normal spins, advanced spins, upright flat spins, inverted flat spins, and the emergency spin recovery technique. This program cannot be done in one flight as we have seen in some cases. The introduction and lead in to the understanding that promotes longer term proficiency and situation awareness takes time and skill that cannot be competently acquired in a one shot deal. If you are not currently aerobatic qualified plan on 3 to 5 flights. If your already into acro, depending how much, it can be done in two flights. We spend approximately 3 hours of individual instruction on the ground during this course.
INITIAL CFI SPIN ENDORSEMENT TRAINING
- We provide the endorsement for the initial Flight Instructor Certificate. We do one hour of ground training and two flights. Our instructors are all qualified to do the endorsement and will instruct you on how to teach the maneuver not just repeat it. We will not provide the training until you have at least 65% of your training course for the CFI completed.
SINGLE PLACE PITTS: CHECKOUT
- We can prepare you for
your first flight in a single place Pitts. Depending on you experience as
a pilot , it will take three to five hours minimum if you have tailwheel
experience and no Pitts time. After an interview we can give you an
accurate estimate.
COMPETITION
- We train for sportsman, intermediate, and advanced level competition. The unlimited people don't need training and don't think so, just ask one.
- We will give you ground training on all aspects of competition and prepare you for your first contest. We have our own competition aerobatic box where we practice the sequences.
LENGTH OF TIME
- We will not do more than two flights a day for training Plus the ground training. Based on one hour per flight you can plan your stay accordingly. We are here seven days a week to provide the training.
